Fireflies don't have lamps, so how do they glow? Grandpa Gugu says fireflies talk with their light, and asks everyone to imagine a little firefly resting in their hand, lighting up and going dark, breath by breath…

✨ What we learn
A firefly has a special part at the end of its tummy that glows. Its body makes the light all by itself, and the light is a "cool light" that makes almost no heat. Fireflies blink to talk to each other and find their friends, and each kind of firefly blinks in its own way. They need dark nights, so their tiny lights are easy to see.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent tip
At bedtime, "be a firefly" with your child: breathe in and imagine your hand lighting up, then breathe out and let the light slowly go dark. In Taiwan, spring (about March to May) is a great time to see fireflies. When you go, keep your flashlight off and don't catch them, so they can keep talking in the dark.

⏱ The story is about 8 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of calming nature sounds (slowed-down crickets and a flowing stream), fading out over the last 3 minutes. About 18 minutes in total.

What are stars, really? And why can't we see them in the daytime? Grandpa Gugu tells them a little secret, and asks everyone to close their eyes and imagine three little stars lighting up…

⭐ What we learn
Stars are very, very big balls that are bright and hot, and make their own light. They look like tiny dots because they are very far away. The sun is a star, too: it is the star closest to us. The other stars are still in the sky in the daytime, but the bright sunny sky hides their light.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent tip
On a clear night, find one star from the window with your child, and say good night to it. You can also compare: does a streetlight far away look much smaller than when you stand right next to it?
Stars are very, very big balls that are bright and hot, and make their own light. They look like tiny dots because they are very far away. The sun is a star, too: it is the star closest to us. The other stars are still in the sky in the daytime, but the bright sunny sky hides their light.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent tip
On a clear night, find one star from the window with your child, and say good night to it. You can also compare: does a streetlight far away look much smaller than when you stand right next to it?

⏱ The story is about 8 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of calming nature sounds (slowed-down crickets and a flowing stream), fading out over the last 3 minutes. About 18 minutes in total.

🥱 What we learn
We often yawn when we are sleepy, or when we just wake up. When we see, hear, or even think about someone yawning, we often want to yawn, too. And yawns jump most easily between people who are close, like family and good friends.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent tip
At bedtime, sit face to face with your child and give a slow, big yawn. Does it jump to them? Children under about 4 often don't "catch" yawns yet, so it's okay if nothing happens.

🐟 What we learn
Fish sleep, too! Most fish don't have eyelids, so they can't close their eyes. When they sleep, they find a quiet, safe place, stay very still, and breathe slowly. (The parrotfish's "bubbles" in our story are really a clear, slimy cover it makes around itself at night.)

At bedtime, pretend to be little fish with your child. Keep your bodies very still, breathe slowly, and feel yourselves slowly relax.

The moon seems to follow them everywhere! Does the moon want to come home with them? Grandpa Gugu asks everyone to close their eyes, and take ten steps through the forest in their imagination…

🌕 What we learn
Things that are close to us seem to move fast and fall behind us when we walk. Things that are far away seem to move very slowly. The moon is very, very far away (if you could walk there without stopping, it would take about nine years!). So wherever we go, it looks like it stays right above us.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent tip
At bedtime, lie down with your child, close your eyes, and imagine taking ten steps together. You can also talk about the gentle moon in the sky, and how its light keeps us company at night.

⏱ The story is about 8 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of calming nature sounds (slowed-down crickets and a flowing stream), fading out over the last 3 minutes. About 18 minutes in total.
